Plenty of Hocking Hills cabins welcome dogs — but the trails have their own rules. Here is where your dog can come, and where they cannot.

The Hocking Hills is a good place to bring a dog — the walking is superb and a large share of cabins accept pets. There are two things worth getting right before you set off.

Trails: state park yes, nature preserve no

Dogs on a leash are welcome on Hocking Hills State Park trails — Old Man's Cave, Ash Cave, Cedar Falls, Rock House. State nature preserves, including Conkle's Hollow, do not allow pets at all. Check the signage at each car park, because the rules genuinely differ site to site.

Choosing a pet-friendly cabin

  • Filter for pets when you search — properties that do not accept them simply drop out of the results.
  • Check the pet fee. On this marketplace it is included in the total you are quoted, not added later.
  • Ask about the outside space: fenced, partly fenced, or open woods makes a real difference with a dog that bolts.
  • Ask whether dogs may be left alone in the cabin. Many owners say no, and it is better to know before you plan a dinner out.

On the trail

Short leads on the cliff edges, water for them as well as you, and remember the sandstone gets hot in July. Pack out what your dog leaves behind — the reason some places ban pets is the people who did not.
